More Than Language: My Experience

Studying in the U.S. is a prestigious opportunity that is life-changing for anyone who can benefit from this experience. This country holds a well-deserved status of being a global academic hub, and passionate learners strive to earn themselves a home in one of its marvelous college campuses. The University of Miami is a much popular “name” destination in my motherland of Saudi Arabia, and a vast number of my peers credit it for their fine abilities and knowledge, as well as for their remarkable performances and achievements as professionals.

The Intensive English Program at the University of Miami

Having a strong grip on language is the prerequisite to effective education. Students coming from the international community realize the significance of refining their English language proficiency and look for opportunities that offer growth. The Intensive English Program at the University of Miami is thus a wonderful path towards this goal. The program is created with attention to detail and shows great consideration towards the individual needs of each student. It recognizes their weaknesses, triggers their creativity, and appreciates their potential.  

One of the finest features of the program is the thoughtful selection of texts that are covered in class. These amazing writings are no ordinary ones chosen only to focus on the learning of language, but are literary masterpieces crafted by the most renowned writers. Moreover, they revolve around important historical and socio-political issues and thus not only enhance the students’ language capabilities, but also broaden their minds and add to their knowledge of the contemporary world. 

The syllabus consists of exercises that add to students’ vocabulary, help the instructor pinpoint grammatical errors, and improve students’ writing skills. The coursework covers everything from constructing an efficient sentence to creating a meaningful outline, so that students master how to both organize and express their ideas in an impactful manner. 

The assignments and tests both are designed to not only assess language proficiency, but also stimulate analytical thinking and creativity. I personally enjoyed the opportunity and encouragement to voice my own opinions within my studies. This characteristic of the program is truly an empowering one. 

Much more than language instruction 

Participating in the Intensive English Program at the University of Miami prepares students to excel at the other subjects that they study and increases their understanding of academic texts across many fields. It also equips them for healthy interactions with their classmates and instructors and prepares them well for their future professional lives. As a splendid source of knowledge and a substantial means of personal mental growth, this program provides much more than language instruction.
