Experiencing American Holidays: My First Easter in the U.S.
Blogger Haruna Matsuoka Shares Her U.S. Easter Holiday Experience
Hi! This is Haruna from SRJC. I want to share how I spent time in Easter. I have done egg hunting in other country but it was my first time to do in the United States.
Exchanging Culture with My Host Family
Since I did not know how Americans celebrate Easter, I asked questions about Easter to my host family. They taught me lots of things such as how did it happen, how do they celebrate, Easter is the most important event for Christian rather than Christmas and so on. In addition, we exchange the culture and custom related to religion. We compared difference between Christian and Buddhism/Shintoism.
Egg hunting!
My host mother hid 15 "eggs" in the garden and I enjoyed the egg hunting. It was a little bit difficult to find but it was so much fun. The inside of eggs was chocolate but it was not normal chocolate, it was Ghirardelli chocolate! This chocolate is my favorite. The Ghirardelli chocolate was made in San Francisco so if you have time to visit there, please go to Ghirardelli Square. You can buy lots of chocolate with a great view.
Slow Sunday
After celebrating Easter, my host family and their friends came to house and we had a good dinner with them and we played the pickleball! I have never tried before since it is a new sport. It was so much fun and it is similar to tennis and badminton so I could easily play. That was a great experience for me.
