The journey of Camila Bejarano and Paula Bejarano, two international students at Minnesota State University Mankato (MSU), is one of exploration, empowerment, and cultural exchange. Camila studies civil engineering while Paula focuses on computer engineering. When the sisters applied to MSU, they were offered a financial aid package that made it possible for them to attend university. In addition, MSU provided them with a scholarship to help with their tuition costs.
Apart from attending classes, Camila and Paula took advantage of various student organizations on campus, such as Student Government, Latino Affairs Club, and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). SWE played a particularly significant role in empowering women in the STEM fields by connecting with other RSOs on campus and bringing speakers to different events. The university also offers other resources for international students, such as tutoring for specific majors and attending international festivals like Nepali night, Japanese Night, or Indian night. These events provide opportunities to learn more about different cultures from around the world while growing as an individual. By exploring the opportunities available within the university community, Camila and Paula were able to make their experience at MSU even more meaningful.
