How to get IN to a U.S. college or university
Many of you ask me on Facebook what the transfer requirements are for admittance into U.S. schools, and I am never able to give you a specific answer. I hate that I can not tell you exactly what they are and the reason is, is because the requirements are completely different at every university. Sigh. I realize this does not make things easier for you. I know firsthand how difficult transferring can be.
I have been admitted to one community college and three universities. I had a ridiculous amount of credits by the time I was admitted to university three and four. University number three took all my design credits and university number four decided not to transfer any of my design credits. But they both accepted the maximum amount of credits. Very confusing.
Here are some education factors that will affect your admittance:
- Your English Language Proficiency score
- Completion of secondary school
- Completion of any university credits in your home country or in the U.S.
- Your GPA (grade point average)
- SAT and/or ACT scores
It is also crucial to know that a university has basic admittance requirements, but a program within that university may have additional requirements. For example, there are additional math and science requirements in order to be accepted into Arizona State University's chemical engineering program. To get a better idea of admissions requirements look at the links below from Arizona State University and California State University, Long Beach:
