Think and Do at North Carolina State University

Think and Do at North Carolina State University

Nov 12, 2018

Founded in 1887, North Carolina State University is the largest university in the state. Commonly known as “NC State,” the university is home to more than 24,000 undergraduate students and is located in the state capital of Raleigh. U.S. News & World Report ranks NC State as a top national university and a “best value” school. If you’re interested in a large school with a welcoming community and a focus on research and experiential education, learn more about North Carolina State University.

An International Focus: NC State is home to more than 4,800 international students who come from 120 different countries. The university prides itself on its global perspective and offers many resources to ensure international students are successful. The Office of International Services is dedicated to helping international students with every step in their educational journey, from application to graduation. Students can visit the university website before they arrive on campus for a checklist of everything they need to do to be prepared for a successful year and can visit the office in person during the academic year to ask questions, chat with staff members, meet new friends, or participate in one of the office’s many cultural initiatives.

The Office of International Students hosts 12 cultural programs that allow students to get involved with the cultures and traditions of their friends and share their culture with the larger NC State community. These programs allow international students to meet new friends with similar experiences, take on leadership roles, and strengthen their English language and cross-cultural communication skills.

Earn Your Degree: NC State is nationally known for its impressive and groundbreaking academic programs, including engineering, statistics, agriculture, life sciences, textiles and design. NC State offers 106 bachelor's degrees so students can specialize in the subjects that will prepare them for their future careers.

NC State believes to truly grasp an idea, you have to apply it, which is why its motto is “Think and Do.” They offer state-of-the-art facilities so students can conduct research that helps them apply the concepts they learn in class.

Get Involved: NC State offers students over 700 clubs and organizations on campus. Student organizations are a great way to meet new friends and get involved on campus while enjoying something you love. NC State students can choose from clubs that focus on their passions, from arts and volunteering to religious and professional organizations and social clubs.

Join the Pack: It’s easy to get into the game at NC State! Students can cheer on the NC State Wolfpack, who compete in 21 different sports, including soccer, tennis, baseball and football. NC State varsity sports perform well every year, and the Wolfpack men’s basketball team won the national championship twice, in both 1974 and 1983.

Students can also participate in club sports, or stay active in the university’s recently remodeled Carmichael Wellness and Recreation Center. All students have access to the aquatics center, indoor track, cardio and weight rooms, basketball courts, indoor climbing wall and sauna. You can play through NC State’s campus recreation program. Students who join a team on campus can play their favorite sport against other students and make new friends in the process.

Find Your Place: Raleigh is a vibrant city with restaurants, shops and many local events and attractions and was ranked #5 for Best U.S. Cities for College Students by the American Institute for Economic Research. All NC State students are required to live on-campus for their first year but have the option to live off-campus for the remainder of their college career. When searching for a place to live, many students rely on ApartmentSearch.com. This website helps students search for an apartment based on  commute and more.

If your apartment is unfurnished, furniture rental is an economical and convenient way to furnish your home. CORT, the leading provider of furniture rental in the U.S., furnishes thousands of student apartments with everything from beds and sofas to housewares and electronics – all with affordable rental package options.

If you’re looking for a university with a strong emphasis on research and a welcoming international community, North Carolina State University may be the right choice for you. Check out the university’swebsite to get more information on admissions, academics and life at NC State.
