Students at Hofstra University

Located in Hempstead, New York, Hofstra University offers great opportunities to students from all around the world. Founded in 1935, Hofstra is located just 25 miles east of New York City and currently has approximately 7,000 undergraduate students. Here’s a closer look into how Hofstra provides a unique and personalized education with access to the most exciting city in the world.

Student Life:

Students have plenty of options when it comes to picking a degree. Hofstra offers 80 majors, which allows students to specialize in whatever they are passionate about. Some of the most popular programs at Hofstra include Psychology, Accounting and Communications. The university also has small class sizes, which creates an environment where students can share, grown, learn and truly get to know their professors.

Finding your fit at Hofstra is easy with over 100 clubs for students to join. These include academic clubs, media and performance clubs,  young professional organizations, religious organizations, social clubs and more. The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement also sponsors volunteering opportunities for students who are interesting in giving back to the Hempstead community.

The Big Apple:

Just a short ride away from Hofstra lies New York City, also known as “The Big Apple.” The bright lights of the big city can offer fun weekend activities for Hofstra students. Whether you’re drawn to the sounds of Broadway, or the sights of iconic American landmarks, like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center, there is plenty of excitement during any trip to Manhattan.

Athletics:

Hofstra University is home to 17 varsity sports teams, including soccer, basketball and American football. Hofstra students can cheer on these teams throughout the academic year. Active students can get moving and stay healthy in the fitness center or through a variety of group fitness classes that are offered every day on campus.

A Well-Rounded Education:

In addition to providing a great education, Hofstra gives students the tools to become leaders by hosting workshops, encouraging peer mentoring and placing value in developing a diverse student body that works together to create a better campus and community. The Office of International Student Affairs does everything they can to make Hofstra feel like “home away from home.” By offering comprehensive immigration support, hosting transition programs for international students and providing cultural and academic advising, Hofstra is committed to setting international students up for success.

Moving In:

Before making the move to the United States, students will need to decide what living environment will be the best fit for them. With the option to live either on-campus or off-campus, incoming students have a lot of options. Students planning to live in an off-campus apartment will need to find a safe location in close proximity to the university. ApartmentSearch.com is a great resource for students moving to a new area – especially one as large as New York City. You can use the website to search for an apartment based on distance from the campus location, while also showing the cost of living, local restaurants, the length of your commute and more. If your apartment is unfurnished, furniture rental is an economical and convenient way to furnish your home. CORT, the leading provider of furniture rental in the U.S., furnishes thousands of student apartments with everything from beds and sofas to housewares and electronics – all with affordable rental package options.

When deciding where to study in the United States, international students should take the time to think about their academic goals as well as the setting they would enjoy living in. If you enjoy an exciting city atmosphere and value a personalized education, Hofstra may be the right school for you.
