Join the Next Wave of Filmmakers: SBCC's Role in Nurturing Global Storytelling Talents
How SBCC and SBIFF Are Opening Eyes to International Cinema
Dreaming of a career in film? Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) is where aspiring filmmakers can start their journey into the world of cinema.
Recently Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) hosted a special panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) at the Arlington Theatre. This event, led by SBCC film instructor and SBIFF Executive Director, Roger Durling, brought together Academy Award–nominated filmmakers from around the globe to discuss their latest projects.
Featuring stories from different corners of the world, like J.A. Bayona's survival epic “Society of the Snow” and Johnnie Burn's haunting “The Zone of Interest,” the panel provided a unique look into cinema that goes beyond language barriers.
Bong Joon Ho once said, "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to many more amazing films." This festival celebrated that idea, showcasing films that invite us to see the world through another's eyes.
The discussions ranged from Matteo Garrone's “El Capitano,” which brings human stories to life, to Ilker Çatak's “Teacher’s Lounge,” highlighting a novel approach to storytelling and education. Wim Wenders' “Perfect Days” offered a reflection on simplicity and meaning in life.
SBCC is excited to share these international stories with you. Join the next generation of filmmakers at SBCC and discover how your passion for film can connect you with stories and audiences across the world.
