About the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI)
Established in 1977, the IELI has a 40-year record of success with helping language learners reach their academic, professional, and personal goals. The IELI is a premier, fully-accredited intensive English program because of its rigorous academic standards and highly qualified, dedicated and experienced instructors and staff.
Faculty and Quality:
- All IELI instructors have a master’s or PhD in English as a Second Language (TESOL) or a related field
- IELI instructors and administrators have extensive ESL/EFL experience overseas and in the U.S.
- The IELI was one of the first programs accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) in 2000 and was recently reaccredited until 2025
Academic Program:
- 7 levels of proficiency: beginner through advanced
- 20 hours of instruction per week divided into two main courses:
- Communication class: listening, speaking, reading, and vocabulary
- Writing class: grammar, writing, library research
- Concurrent enrollment in undergraduate and graduate UNT courses in level 6 for qualified students
- Five 8-week terms per year with start dates in January, March, June, August or October
