Marianapolis Preparatory School

Brief Overview:

Marianapolis Preparatory School is a co-educational boarding and day school for students age 14-19 (grades 9 through 12 and post-graduate). Marianapolis is located one hour from Boston and three hours from New York City on 150-acres in Thompson, Conn. Students come from 28 different countries and 35 area communities to develop the confidence and skills required for spiritual, intellectual, athletic and artistic success.

Marianapolis is known for its English as a Second Language Program, as well as its rigorous college preparatory academics, championship athletics, cultural diversity, community service programs, and variety in student activities. The school offers honors and advanced placement courses as well as numerous electives for students to choose from.

Transportation

Marianapolis offers free transportation services to Logan Airport in Boston, Mass. as well as to the train/bus station in Worcester, Mass. at the beginning of each school recess. Faculty members are also always willing to drive a student to a nearby destination for a fee.

Marianapolis Family Network

Marianapolis boarding students come from countries all over the world. In an effort to ease the transition of being away from home, the Marianapolis Family Network was created. Generous families of current day students serve as surrogate families to boarding students, inviting them to dinners at their home, celebrating birthdays, picking them up at the airport, as well as participating in several school sponsored outings. Now in its seventh year, the Marianapolis Family Network is a dynamic program that enriches the Marianapolis experience for local families and international students alike.

Academics- ESL Program

The English as a Second Language Program at Marianapolis is more than simply learning to read, write and speak in English; it’s about adjusting to a new culture. The ESL faculty is specially trained in foreign language instruction as well as foundation subjects such as English, math and science. Many have travelled extensively.

International students are tested and placed at the appropriate English level, soon after arrival at Marianapolis. There are four levels to the ESL curriculum: Beginning, Intermediate, Transitional and Advanced. Students also learn outside of the classroom, by visiting historical cities and landmarks.

New to Marianapolis beginning in the summer of 2012, a one week intensive TOEFL course will be offered. During this week, students will spend seven hours each day in order to maximize their intake of information.

The effectiveness of the ESL program is evidenced by students able to converse in English with teachers and friends in just a few months.

College Placement/Acceptance

Marianapolis has a 100% college acceptance rate. Students are accepted to top colleges and universities in the United States including:
