Visa officers look at the totality of your case. Every single applicant has pros and cons. Some applicants have more advantages and some have more disadvantages. Visa officers don’t approve or deny your university. They don’t approve or deny your sponsor or your test scores. Their job is to approve or deny you as an applicant. Of course, your university, sponsor, and test scores all contribute to who you are as an applicant, but it is important to understand that there is a difference.
What do visa officers look for?
When you, as an applicant, go over your details in the visa interview, you need to present enough of an overview of yourself and all the components in your application that the visa officer can make a decision on your case.
For an F-1 visa, they then must decide: Is this applicant qualified for this visa? Will the applicant use this visa properly? Is there any fraudulent or illegal activity happening here? Then, the officer will make a decision based on all of the pertinent information.

While it’s important to be honest at your visa interview, it’s equally important to be an effective interviewee. This means you have to be proactive in discussing why you chose this school, how you plan to fund your education, and what you will do with the degree once you graduate.
