Angela Silva from Colombia studied English at English at the English Language Institute (ELI) at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina

Interview:

What are your goals in learning English?

My goals in learning English here are to improve my English speaking and writing. This will provide me with more and better job opportunities in Colombia.

Why did you choose the College of Charleston English Language Institute program?

I chose the College of Charleston ELI program because of their awesome reputation. My sister also lives in Charleston, so it was convenient to have family here.

What did you like best?

The best thing about the program were the instructors, their teaching methodology and the classmates! The instructors were great. I really enjoyed the students coming together from different countries and cultures to learn English together and appreciate our new friendships. I also loved learning about American history and culture.

Did you make friends in the program?

Yes, I met many wonderful friends from different cultures!

How is studying at the College of Charleston ELI program different from education in your own country?

College of Charleston ELI program is different from studying in my own country because we are immersed in the English culture and language here. In Colombia, we would only study a few hours in class. The College of Charleston’s ELI program is much more intensive.

Would you recommend the ELI program to a friend?

Absolutely! I would recommend the ELI program to a friend based on many factors: the improvement in my English writing and speaking, great instructors, College of Charleston’s awesome reputation, the student friendships that are built, and the sense of community you feel here. College of Charleston ELI program is a great program! I am sad to be leaving already.
