What to Do During the Summer in San Diego

What makes San Diego and Grossmont College so great in the summer.

Summertime could be fun to some people but could be boring to others. Some find that during a long break, there is nothing to do but sit in the house, do chores, and deal with the heat. More optimistic people look at summer as the perfect time to catch up on social life, enjoy some time outside, and maybe learn new things even if they are not school related.

San Diego in the summer

For the people who look down to summertime, my goal is to show you a list of activities to do during this long period of time. First of all, I find that San Diego is a great place to spend time outdoors. It doesn’t get too hot, and even when temperatures rise it is a great opportunity to go to the many beaches nearby. I have heard many people enthusiastically saying that just a walk around downtown with city lights and views of buildings could be the perfect night out with friends.

Out and about in the city

Shopping centers are definitely popular places here. Whether it is to shop or just get ice cream, being at the mall with friends makes time go by while having fun. Even for people with no car, it is easy to get around here with the trolley. Just a small fee could get you somewhere far in this city.

Learn something new

I know people can be introverted and dislike leaving the house to see people. I believe that should not stop you from doing something even if it is something little like learning and/or perfecting a new skill. Baking, dance, new languages and etc. are all examples of things you can keep yourself busy with during the day. Tutorials on YouTube or other online sites could be helpful with trying to learn a new thing.

Get ahead with summer classes

Speaking of online, Grossmont College provides summer classes for all the students. It is not necessary to stress yourself by taking math or 3 classes at a time but, you can take it slow. For example, you could just take one or two subjects related to something you are interested in. Doing anything related to school during summer might sound boring or annoying but has many benefits starting with the fact that you are earning more credits throughout the year.

As for me, I made the choice of taking English and Business Communication to end the summer with 6 more credits than before without too difficult work and something keeping me busy. Luckily for the people who work better in class rather than in person, Grossmont College also offers summer classes on campus.

Getting a job

I find that college offers many job opportunities for students to earn money giving them a chance to be independent. A benefit of having a job, especially for international students could be that while your parents pay for major things like school or a place to live, you could rely on yourself for the minimum like food, clothing, transportation, etc. After all, I would definitely recommend enjoying and spending life in San Diego to enjoy an unforgettable time.
