Experience San Diego to the Fullest!

As every ELA student at the University of San Diego has the opportunity to learn from the best, tailor their education, and have a lot of fun!

San Diego is known as “America’s Finest City,” with amazing weather, beaches, activities, and people. As an English language student, what better way to study a new language than being surrounded by a community of supporters who uplift you every step of the way?

Improve your English skills at the English Language Academy (ELA)

Not only does learning English open up a world of opportunities, but where you learn can be just as important. San Diego ELA’s environment has cultivated an engaging, family-like atmosphere that has you learning English both inside and outside the classroom.

There are several benefits to taking an Intensive English Program at the English Language Academy — one of the key advantages is that our placement test is used to place you at different levels for each skill area. For example, you might be placed in Advanced Reading, High Intermediate Listening, Intermediate Writing, etc. World-class teachers and a community of eager-to-learn students helps customize the English language-learning experience to each student’s unique needs, providing you with a more dynamic educational experience.

Other benefits afforded as an ELA student include:

What we offer

For non-native English speakers who are looking to attend universities in the U.S., the English Language Academy is offering online courses that will provide information and support needed for you to be academically successful. The fact that courses are offered online and in an asynchronous format provides the added benefit of allowing you to take courses on a computer in your own country, and on a daily schedule that works best for you. Things to do in San Diego

Living in San Diego opens you up to some of the most diverse range of activities and adventures you’ll ever experience. Whether you gravitate toward the water, have a refined taste for the arts, or love a good road trip — San Diego has it all. Focusing on your English education is important, but giving yourself time to breathe can recharge you to take on the weeks ahead.

As a native San Diegan, I love to talk with new students about my city and offer suggestions on all the wonderful things to do and see. Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Secrets and Highlights of Balboa Park — explore the country’s best urban cultural parks. Tour the grand architecture, diverse museums, captivating gardens, and more. Balboa Park is home to the World Famous San Diego Zoo!

  2. Coronado History and Highlights Tour — discover the famed Coronado Island, marvel at the historic Hotel Del Coronado, enjoy a delicious treat at a favorite eatery, hear stories of the artists, aviators, and innovators who have made the island their home.

  3. Point Loma Adventure — 7 fun things to do on the Point Loma Peninsula, including a visit to the 125-year-old lighthouse, hiking trails, dockside dining at the bay, and more.

Don’t take it from us; students like Luis Guillermo from Venezuela had this to say about their time at ELA:

“My experience in ELA was truly amazing. I returned home after one year not only with a better performance in writing, listening, speaking, and grammar, but having a broader experience of our world, sharing with people from other cultures, and having unforgettable moments with them. I am also glad to have had teachers so nice and with a high level of know-how, always willing to help, and giving the best of themselves day after day. Forever grateful and thank you for the memories!”
