This unique three-week precollege program allows students to earn college credit, interact with world-class professors, make lasting friendships, and grow as independent thinkers.

The University of Miami specializes in innovative thinking and excellent teaching – a combination that is showcased in the Summer Scholars Program. Students will explore their academic interests while earning six college credits in three weeks.

Learn from distinguished UM faculty in your field of interest, and study in classes that connect classroom ideas and hands-on learning in one of our exciting summer college programs. The three-week credit program is open to students completing grades 10 or 11.

Residential students are housed on the main campus in one of the University of Miami’s residential colleges used by UM undergraduates during the academic year.

Students have roommates and floormates who share similar academic interests. Trained residential staff live on the designated Summer Scholars floors with the participants to promote safety and well-being and create welcoming learning communities. Rooms are assigned by gender, with male and female students on separate floors. We are an inclusive community.

Students have easy access to the University’s outstanding sports and recreational facilities. Meal plans are included in the tuition: three meals per day, seven days a week while on campus. Evening activities on campus will be planned along with weekend programs and excursions, including transportation for off-campus activities.

Students select one academic specialty from UM's schools and colleges. Each academic specialty consists of two courses for six credit hours. Courses are structured around hands-on experiences, guest lecturers, open discussion, lab work, and field trips. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday. The morning class is from 8:20 AM - 11:50 AM and the afternoon class is from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM.

Students selected for this scholarly program will have the opportunity to:

  • Choose from a diverse selection of credit and non-credit academic tracks based on their interests
  • Attend classes and form lasting friendships with high school students from around the world
  • Learn from distinguished university of Miami faculty
  • Develop time management skills and grow as independent thinkers
