Youngstown State University, named “One of the 25 Most Dynamic Universities in the United States” 
by Asian Correspondent, is a state-affiliated comprehensive university enrolling more than 14,000 students. YSU awards doctoral degrees in educational leadership and in physical therapy, six master’s degrees in 24 graduate programs, nine baccalaureate degrees in more than 100 undergraduate majors, and four associate degrees. Numerous options are available for transfer of credits to YSU from other accredited two-year and four-year institutions.

The university also offers certificate programs and a full-time intensive English as a Second Language program. The English Language Institute (ELI) offers a non-credit intensive English program for students from around the globe. Classes are available to college-bound students, permanent residents, immigrants, and special interest groups.

Location

The 130-acre Youngstown State University campus is located in the scenic Mahoning Valley in the city of Youngstown, Ohio, named “One of the Ten Best Cities in the United States to Start a New Business” by Entrepreneur Magazine. With a population of 84,000, Youngstown is a mid-sized city one-hour drive from Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and within an easy day’s drive of New York City, Chicago, or Washington, D.C.

Tuition and Expenses

Youngstown State University has among the lowest graduate tuition in the state of Ohio; in academic year 2011-2012, tuition and instructional fees for our English Language Institute, a full-time intensive English as a Second Language program, cost just $3,275 per semester; graduate tuition and academic fees total just $3,800* per semester for international students, and undergraduate international students tuition and fees are less than $6,704* per semester. The cost of living in Youngstown is one of the lowest in the United States. The university offers a limited number of academic and athletic scholarships for undergraduate students, and numerous assistantships are available for graduate students. With our excellent academic reputation, more than 400 full-time faculty members and a 18:1 student–faculty ratio, YSU truly offers exceptional value in an American higher education.

*Not including mandatory health insurance ($1,480 per calendar year) or housing. On campus housing (room and board) for ELI and undergraduate students $3,950 per semester; affordable private apartments are available to all students near campus.

Youngstown State University is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is fully accredited by the Commission on Higher Learning. Individual programs are accredited by their respective associations, including the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International (AACSB-I) and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Sports

YSU fields intercollegiate teams in baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field/cross-country and volleyball, as well as club teams in many other sports.

The Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP)

The Center for International Studies and Programs is an integral part of the Academic Affairs division of YSU. The CISP is responsible for international student and scholar programs, the intensive English Language Institute, and study abroad and exchange programs.
