Programs and Internships

Ferris State University offers programs in engineering, technology, business, health professions, education & human services, and liberal arts & sciences. Some Ferris majors are not offered at any other university in Michigan or the United States. More than 89 percent of the degrees awarded at Ferris align with an in-demand occupation. Great examples of in-demand and specialized programs include Digital Animation and Game Design, Information Security and Intelligence, Health Information Management, HVACR Engineering Technology & Energy Management, and Plastics Engineering Technology. Scholarships

Ferris State University is pleased to offer the Woodbridge N. Ferris Scholarship opportunities for students entering college for the first time. These scholarships are automatically awarded to international students who are academically eligible. Scholarship amounts are determined by evaluating both a student’s high school transcript and a submitted score (TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, or SAT). Students can earn over $12,000 in academic scholarships per year.

English Language Institute and Conditional Admission

The West Michigan English Language Institute (WMELI) provides English language instruction to students that have not meet the TOEFL or IELTS score requirement. In this CEA accredited program, students develop essential English language skills to successfully pursue their academic and career goals.

Conditional admission to academic programs is offered through the English Language Institute. Once a student completes the language institute or achieves language proficiency, they can immediately transfer into their full academic program on the same visa.

Student Resources

Ferris State has support services and resources to help students succeed. Premier support resources include:

  • Ferris Library for Information, Technology and Education (FLITE) – Allows you to access information and get research assistance from subject specialists.
  • Academic Support Center – Provides free tutoring sessions and study skills advice.
  • Writing Center – Offers free help to improve written communication skills.
  • Structured learning Assistance Program – Provides extra assistance in numerous courses.
  • Center for Leadership Activities and Career Services – Supports you in campus engagement opportunities and in your search for internships and careers.

International students can count on the Office of International Education to provide a comprehensive orientation that includes airport pick-up, move-in, shopping, and advising. This office is the primary resource for immigration services, international student support, and cultural activities.

Ferris State University offers a choice between 15 residence halls including dormitories, suites, and apartments. Students have easy access to dining halls, laundry, advisors, and lots of activities.
