The University of Miami Intensive English Program has been providing a home away from home for international students from all over the world since 1951. The mission of the University of Miami Intensive English Program is to prepare international students to enter a university in the U.S. by providing instruction in English language and academic study skills. The IEP also helps its international students adapt to university life and American culture through a wealth of activities both inside and outside the classroom. The program facilitates intercultural understanding, offers support and guidance related to non-academic issues, and builds ease and confidence in a new culture.
The Intensive English Program is part of the Division of Continuing and International Education of the University of Miami.

LOCATION
The Intensive English Program is located in suburban Coral Gables, Florida. Also called "The Beautiful City," Coral Gables stands out as a rare beauty with its Mediterranean architectural style. All of the IEP offices and classes are in Allen Hall on the university's main campus. The campus is located approximately six miles from the Miami International Airport and less than 15 minutes from downtown Miami, Key Biscayne, and the Miami Beach area, and just a few hours from the Florida Keys. With its warm climate, you can enjoy outdoor activities all year round in Miami, including biking, beach volleyball, kayaking, canoeing, and other water sports.

FACULTY AND STAFF
Each Intensive English Program faculty member holds an advanced degree of a Master's degree or Ph.D. in the area of Teaching English as a Second Language or a closely related field. In addition, they have years of experience teaching both in the United States and overseas, which creates a culturally sensitive environment in the classroom.
Not only does the IEP have full-time immigration specialists and academic advisors, but also a student services manager who is ready to assist with locating housing, as well as planning weekly social events. The IEP staff is friendly and ready to serve our diverse student population.
PROGRAM
The IEP offers five levels of intensive English instruction. Classes vary by level focusing on the needs of the language learner. Skills based curriculum integrates reading and writing, listening and speaking into one complete program of study. Small class sizes allow students many opportunities to participate in meaningful class activities and create a comfortable class environment. Students will be placed into a level during orientation after taking an oral, written, and listening exam.
There are weekly social events provided for students including trips to Universal Studios, Miami professional sporting events, beach BBQ’s, and ice cream socials.
The IEP offers both Full sessions and Mid sessions. Programs start in January, February, May, June, August and October.
ACCREDITATION & PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
The IEP is fully accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). The IEP is a founding member of the Consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and English USA. Both of these organizations promote professional standards of quality in English programs. The IEP adheres to the NAFSA code of ethics.
