Where is USF?
Tampa is a beautiful city located on Florida’s west coast. Living here, you’ll enjoy the excitement of city life as well as the area’s natural beauty. Tampa’s annual average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius with 361 days of sunshine a year. Tampa Bay includes the cities of Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg and is home to over 3 million people. When you’re not participating in activities on USF’s campus, you can explore the many cultural and recreational activities in the area by visiting one of the many museums, theatres, or spending time at one of the breathtaking beaches. There are 10 theme parks within a 90 minute car ride from Tampa, including Universal Studios, Disney World, and Busch Gardens. Florida’s landscape includes a dynamic mix of beaches, wetlands, and plains, with highlights such as the Atlantic Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Everglades.

In addition to 89 undergraduate majors and 139 degree programs at the graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine, USF is in partnership with INTO, and offers Pathway Programs that lead to a bachelor’s degree, or graduate degrees for students who will benefit from additional English language study.
Undergraduate Programs
89 undergraduate majors are offered in fields related to behavioral and community sciences, marine science, medicine, fine arts, public health, education, engineering, and business.
Undergraduate Pathway Programs
- Allows the students to combine intensive English language study, academic skills development, and academic coursework in a customized program designed to move students successfully through the first semester or first year year of a four-year degree.
- Guaranteed admission to a relevant USF degree program upon successful completion of a Pathway Program
- Programs offered in Business, Engineering, Science, Computing and General Studies
Graduate Programs
97 Masters and 43 Doctoral programs are offered in fields such as Audiology, Fine Arts, Engineering, Education, Business, Biology, Political Science, Entrepreneurship, and Global Sustainability.
Graduate Pathway Programs
- The innovative Graduate Pathway programs offered at USF are designed to increase students’ academic knowledge and develop their language ability.
- Assured progression to a USF graduate program subject to successful completion of a Pathway program.

Academic English
- The Academic English program at the University of South Florida prepares international students for university study in the U.S.
- Intensive English preparation consist of 12 to 14 week semesters
- 6 levels of instruction from beginner to advanced
- 18 hours of classes per week
General English
- The General English program is designed for students of all levels of English who want to develop communication skills in many social and professional situations
- Program durations vary from 4 to 48 weeks
- 4 levels of instruction (beginner, intermediate, high-intermediate and advanced)
- 18 hours of classes per week covering the following core skills: listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing.
Special Programs
Summer Youth English Experience
- Builds oral communication skills while being in a university environment.
- Two-week sessions* include English workshops, USF department visits, field trips and chaperoned, weekend activities.
Study Abroad with English
- Long-term program combining Academic English language study with undergraduate courses at USF.
- Students earn college credits in their field of study without enrolling in the degree program.
- Program length depends on student.
Pathway Jump Start
- Two-week series of sessions designed to assist graduate and undergraduate Pathway students adjust to the American classroom.
Advance in TEFL
- Designed for practicing EFL teachers interested in developing their English language skills.
- Deepens theory and practice of TEFL.
