Global Launch Intensive English Program at Arizona State University

Inspiring globally-minded students, educators and leaders to change their lives and the world, Global Launch at Arizona State University has been offering specially designed intensive English language instruction through our year-round IEP for over 40 years. Global Launch helps students meet English goals, experience American culture, and prepare for academic study in the U.S.

Program information

  • Global Launch offers six levels of English, at a total of 8 weeks per level. To maintain Visa, full-time students (21 hours/week) must enroll in 3 core classes and at least one elective per session.
  • Students are required to test into the IEP to determine English reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar levels.
  • Students can enroll in as many or as few sessions over the course of 4 or 8 weeks, dependent on proficiency level and interest.
  • Global Launch offers further English support for students wishing to start their degree program at the end of Intermediate 2 through the ASU-USA Pathways program.

Start Earning Your Degree

  • Conditional Admissions to ASU- Students who qualify for ASU admission may be conditionally admitted while completing their English language requirement at Global Launch. Students who successfully complete the Global Launch program with a B or better are not required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score for admission to most ASU undergraduate degree programs.
    • Who is Eligible?
      • Students who meet all the academic requirements for their degree of choice
      • Students who do not have a TOEFL or IELTS score which meets the minimum English language proficiency requirement for the ASU degree program
  • Concurrent Enrollment - Concurrent enrollment allows non-degree students to take Global Launch classes and ASU academic courses at the same time to learn what it takes to succeed in the U.S. educational system.
  • TOEFL Waiver (Undergraduate, Graduate) - Students who successfully complete the Advanced 2 level of English at Global Launch will not be required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score for admission to most ASU undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
  • ASU-USA Pathways - Students can ease into the American academic system by stretching 2 semesters into 3 while earning 24 or 25 real, transferrable academic credits (freshman) toward their degree. They will receive academic and English support in Pathways, making them stronger sophomores at ASU or any other U.S. university.
    • Who is Eligible?
      • Global Launch English students who complete the Intermediate 2 level with a B+ grade (87%) and earned a high school grade point average of 2.5 (or equivalent)

Learning Outside the Classroom – on campus, in Phoenix and beyond!

  • Practice English with native English speakers during weekly on-campus academic success activities like one-on-one tutoring, conversation groups, Reading Theatre and reading circles.
  • Students can attend activities all year long through Global Launch-hosted events, such as trips to the Grand Canyon or Sedona, professional sporting events and American or international cultural celebrations.
  • Located in the 6th largest city in the U.S., students have access to local museums, shopping districts, world-renowned restaurants, local arts and culture, and outdoor activities within Phoenix.

Living Accommodations

Students can further their English language training and cultural knowledge by taking advantage of on-campus housing options or by staying with American host families through our Global Launch homestay program.
