Mississippi University for Women is located in Columbus, Mississippi. It is historically the first all-female public university in the U.S., but has been co-educational (men and women) since 1982. Mississippi University for Women (MUW) is a small, quaint institution conveniently located in the center of downtown Columbus. Students are within walking distance of some of the best restaurants and shops the city has to offer. Local banks and corner markets are also within walking distance of campus. MUW is known for having the top nursing program in the state and also has the only culinary program in the state. But there are also many other degrees to choose from, such as Business, Education, Music, Art, Speech Pathology, Biology and more! Its classroom sizes are smaller, due to the smaller student population. This allows more one-on-one opportunities with the professors. MUW also has a variety of sports teams like basketball, baseball, soccer (football), and even golf. Many social events are held on campus for students, as well as community members. Some of those events include Under the Oaks, which is our annual arts festival, Oktoberfest, International Night, campus-wide movie nights and more! Students can participate in social clubs or Greek life, and be a part of student organizations like student government or the international student organization. There are many options to choose from. Mississippi University for Women is home away from home for many of its students. It could be a home for you too!
