Central State University is one of the 107 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States. It is also an 1890 Land-Grand Institution. Central State University has a 129-year history of educating the next generation of leaders.

Academics

Central State University has four colleges:

  1. The College of Science and Engineering
  2. The College of Business
  3. The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
  4. The College of Education.

The University offers 34 majors across the various colleges and has an academic program to meet a variety of academic interests; engender preparation needed for the 21st century economy; and provide integrated experiences for cultural and social development. The University holds national accreditation status by the Higher Learning Commission on Accreditation.

Whether your interests are academic, professional, political, religious or simply fun and relaxation, you’ll find plenty of ways to get involved at Central State University. We offer more than 30 student organizations that include Entrepreneurship Club, Infiniti Dance Team, Pre-Law Society, Visual Arts Club and much more.

When it comes to achieving a contagious mix of athleticism and performance, nobody does it better than Central State. Our 10 winning teams compete in the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). We offer the following sports: Basketball, Cross Country, Track and Field, Football, Tennis and Volleyball.

Location and Surrounding Communities

Centrally located in Wilberforce, Ohio, Central State University is approximately 30 minutes driving time from Dayton, Ohio; and approximately one hour from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. The closest city to the University is Xenia, Ohio, which is approximately a 10-minute drive to restaurants, recreational facilities, quaint retail shops and large grocery and retail businesses.

Commitment to Internationalization

Central State University has a firm commitment to internationalization and promotes students’ international engagement through international internships and study abroad programs for faculty, staff and students. There are currently six countries represented by student enrollment and over 25 countries represented by faculty and staff. Appreciation and value of diversity are hallmarks of the University.
