Intensive English Program (IEP)

Welcome to the Intensive English Program (IEP) at the University of Southern Indiana (USI)! Our international students often tell us “USI feels like family!”

Classes

The IEP has 6 levels during which students take classes in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, Academic Skills with Grammar, and TOEFL.

We also offer preparatory levels for absolute beginners. Classes are small, minimum 5 and up to maximum 15 students. All levels meet between 21-23 hours each week.

Calendar

There is no application deadline. Students should apply well before the start of their desired term for maximum consideration.  Our sessions run:

Fall 1: Late August to Mid-October
Fall 2: Mid-October to Mid-December
Spring 1:  Mid-January -Mid-March
Spring 2: Mid-March – Mid-May
Summer: Mid-May – Mid-July

Cost

USI Intensive English Tuition: $2 950.00 (each 8 week term)
Mandatory Fees (each semester):     $237

Customized Intensive English Projects

We can create customized programs for groups that need to meet specific English language objectives. Start and end dates can be chosen by the group:

  • Short-term (4-6 weeks)
  • 3 to 5 hours daily
  • Specialized curricula
  • Flexible content and focus
  • Weekend trips and activities 

Sample customized group programs include:

  • Training workshops for English teachers
  • English training for university students and/or professors

Housing

The USI offers apartment and dormitory housing on campus.  There is no residency requirement for students. Several meal plans are available.

Campus Life

International students can get engaged on campus via joining clubs such as the International Club and over 140 other student organizations – academic, social, recreational and honorary including Greek-letter organizations. Students have access to the Library, Academic Skills Center, the Recreational Center/ gym, pool, University Health Center, Counseling Center, free parking, etc.

Things To Do

As the third largest city in Indiana, Evansville is located near the Ohio River and it's an easy drive from several large metropolitan areas such as Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville, St. Louis and Chicago. There are many museums, zoo, philharmonic orchestra, theatre, minor league baseball team, minor league hockey team, and not to mention hundreds of stores and restaurants.

Scholarships

International scholarships are offered on a competitive basis to well qualified degree-seeking students. Interested students should complete a separate scholarship application in addition to the application for admission.
