Campus Description

Las Positas College is located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. Rolling hills and vineyards provide the scenic background for the 147-acre campus. Las Positas College is a public, fully-accredited community college that prepares students to succeed in their education while engaging in the cultural life of the community. Students can earn Associate degrees and certificates in more than 70 academic subject areas. For students seeking to complete a Bachelor's degree, Las Positas College is an ideal environment for students to complete their first two years before transferring to a four-year university. Las Positas College is near many of the finest four-year universities in the U.S., and is within easy driving distance of the cities of Berkeley, San Jose and San Francisco. Livermore experiences a mild Mediterranean climate with limited rainfall during the fall, winter, and spring seasons and an abundance of sunshine during the summer. The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse regions in the United States and offers students a broad range of cultural, historic, recreational, and entertainment resources. Public transit is available to neighboring cities.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Las Positas College has a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. Students can be admitted to the program without a TOEFL score. It includes six levels of instruction: two semesters of beginning, two semesters of intermediate and two semesters of advanced courses. The program focuses on academic language skills: reading, writing, grammar, and listening and speaking. To complement the instructional program, the College provides assessment, counseling, orientation and special support services, such as tutoring for all ESL and international students.

Many of our students transfer to top-ranked four-year universities to continue their studies. Our College Transfer Center provides free resources and services to help students transfer from Las Positas College to a four-year university. Our students transfer to popular universities like these:

Application and Tuition

Las Positas College operates on a traditional semester system and offers an optional summer session. Applications are accepted for Fall (July 1 deadline), and Spring (November 1 deadline). New students are required to arrive on campus before classes begin for new student orientation and registration. Tuition for international students is a good value and is estimated at $4,844 per academic year.

Campus Life and Facilities

Las Positas College currently enrolls approximately 9,000 students and over 100 international students. International students are encouraged to participate in student clubs, student government, athletics, newspaper, and cultural events and celebrations. Las Positas College offers a 1,394 square meter Physical Education Complex, featuring a state-of-the-art gymnasium and modern fitness center. Classrooms and laboratories are available for social science, language arts, humanities, international language, art, music, drama, physics and mathematics, and physical education.

Housing

Las Positas College does not offer on-campus housing; however, we have contracted with International Student Placement to assist students in finding safe and affordable housing in a quality, pre-screened host home. Las Positas College has an agreement with California State University, East Bay (CSU-EB) that allows students to live in student housing located on the University campus in nearby Hayward, while attending Las Positas College. We can also assist you in locating shared housing and individual apartments or houses in the community. Public transportation is available to and from campus.
