My name is Rimsha Abid, and I am in my second year at Foothill College, majoring in Film and Television. I plan to graduate next year with an associate degree and then transfer to a reputable film school to continue my journey toward becoming a filmmaker and storyteller. From a very young age, I have had a strong interest in the production process and behind-the-scenes work, and that curiosity filmmaking including eventually became my passion, which brought me to Foothill College.

Choosing Foothill College

I did a lot of research and applied to several colleges and universities prior to studying at Foothill College. My consultant recommended Foothill College after reviewing my course outline and learning about the transfer rates. I can confidently say that Foothill was the right choice since it has opened many opportunities for me; the teachers have been super supportive. I knew Foothill would give me the foundation I needed to challenge myself, explore new areas of interest, and prepare for the next step in my education.

Academic Growth & Preparation for Transfer

My time at Foothill has strengthened my academic foundation and clarified my long-term goals. I feel well-prepared to transfer to a four-year university to continue my studies. Beyond academics, Foothill has helped me build confidence, discipline, and a clearer sense of purpose.

Cultural Perspective & Family Motivation

Coming from a culture where creative careers are often undervalued, choosing this path was both a bold and uncertain decision. However, my family has always valued education, and I am determined to make the most of this opportunity not only for myself but also for my younger siblings, who look up to me as their role model.

Challenges, Perseverance & Purpose

Moving abroad and starting my degree again from scratch was not easy, but I have learned the true value of perseverance and the importance of believing in my purpose. Every challenge has strengthened my resolve to use storytelling as a force for change. I have realized that film is not just about entertainment, it is about giving voice to underrepresented stories and breaking barriers.

Future Goals in Filmmaking

In the future, I hope to establish my own production company that supports independent filmmakers, especially those who struggle to be heard in restrictive or underrepresented communities. I want to create opportunities for others who, like me, once felt that their voices did not matter.

Choosing Foothill College has been a meaningful step in my journey, and I am excited for what lies ahead as I work toward my future in filmmaking. I look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and contribute to my community. Foothill was the first important step on my path, giving me both the knowledge and mindset I need to reach my goals.
