Getting Ready for Back-to-School

Getting Ready for Back-to-School

Oct 16, 2024

Blogger Maya Goto starts a new semester at Truckee Meadows (TMCC)!

As the new semester starts at TMCC, I think it's important to set goals that keep us motivated and on track, no matter how long they take to reach. For me, setting goals helps bring structure to my day and gives me a sense of purpose. These goals can be big, like yearly ones, or small daily ones that build up to something bigger.

I reset my goals

I’ve realized that without passion or clear goals, it's easy for people to get lazy and not take action. That’s why I’ve decided to take some time to reset my goals for the semester as I get ready to go back to school.

Goal 1: Better sleep habits

One of my main goals is to improve my sleep habits. Currently, I wake up around 6 or 6:30 every morning, but the problem is that I go to bed far too late — sometimes after midnight. :( Over the last couple of years, I've realized how important sleep is, not only for physical health but also for mental health. Poor sleep patterns can lead to a variety of health and psychological issues, as I’ve experienced firsthand. So this semester, I want to make a conscious effort to go to bed earlier, ensuring I get the rest my body needs to perform at its best.

Goal 2: Managing my time

My days have been incredibly full with both classes and work responsibilities, which can feel overwhelming at times, but I’ve learned that staying on top of time management really helps me feel organized and in control. Despite the busy schedule, the last few weeks have been filled with exciting and energizing events on campus!

Goal 3: Enjoying my community

From meeting new students during orientation, where they were filled with excitement and a bit of nervousness and enjoying presentations like my friend from Costa Rica’s at International Coffee Hour, it’s been an amazing experience. These moments not only break up the routine but also remind me how rewarding it is to be part of such a beautiful community. I feel grateful for all the connections I’ve made, the opportunities to create memorable experiences outside of my usual tasks. These social events are such a boost — they help me connect with others and fill me with energy!

Goal 4: Appreciating where I live

On top of that, I went on a camping trip to Lake Tahoe over the weekend. The place is amazingly beautiful! I loved spending peaceful moments under the stars, surrounded by nature. The stargazing at night was especially magical, with countless stars lighting up the sky.

Overall, my goals this semester are a balance of personal life, effective time management, and fully enjoying campus life. Thank you for connecting with me, and I look forward to sharing more soon! See you in the next blog!
