Take a Look at the University of Tulsa

Take a Look at the University of Tulsa

September 6th, 2016

Located in northern Oklahoma, the University of Tulsa is one of the leading private universities in the United States. Tulsa first opened in 1884, and is today known best for its great academic programs, involvement in the community and diversity among students. Here’s a closer look at the University of Tulsa.

Student Life: In addition to its esteemed academic offerings, Tulsa provides students with many opportunities to get involved both on and off campus. With more than 100 student-run organizations – including everything from The History Club to The Cricket Club – students can join organizations with like-minded individuals who share the same passions and interests.

Tulsa is also very well known for being involved in the local community. While attending the university, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to support charitable causes. By volunteering their time, students get a chance to gain valuable experience while simultaneously helping others in need and building lasting relationships with their local community. In total, Tulsa logged 63,152 volunteer hours this past year.

The Golden Hurricane: One of the most exciting parts of being a student at American universities is attending sporting events. The University of Tulsa’s athletic teams are known as the Golden Hurricane, competing in American football, basketball, soccer and a multitude of other sports year-round.

During the fall, fans will pack Skelly Field at H. A. Chapman Stadium to cheer on the football team, which competes in the American Conference along with many of the great football programs in the country. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams also compete during the fall and have experienced great success in recent years. During the winter and spring time, basketball season brings fans together to cheer on the Golden Hurricane. The basketball program has a great history of success and tradition, including several trips to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament.

Getting an Education: With international students making up 25 percent of the university’s enrollment, Tulsa is a very welcoming environment for students studying abroad. There are approximately 1,200 international students from 79 countries currently enrolled at Tulsa, which provides these students with the necessary resources to succeed in their academic pursuits while studying at the university.

Although Tulsa is considered to be a relatively small university, it is recognized as a top 100 research institution. Tulsa has several areas of study for incoming students to choose from, including arts, business, engineering, health sciences and law. The programs all provide challenging courses to help students grow and ultimately prepare for a career following graduation.

Moving in: Students enrolled at the University of Tulsa can choose between living on-campus or off-campus. If you plan to live off-campus, you will need to find an apartment that is both close to campus and in a safe location. ApartmentSearch.com is a great resource to use for students moving to a new area. The tool allows you to search for an apartment in your ideal location, while also detailing the cost of living, local restaurants, the length of your commute and more. If your apartment is unfurnished, furniture rental is an economical and hassle-free way to furnish your home. CORT, the leading provider of furniture rental in the U.S., furnishes thousands of student apartments with everything from beds and sofas to housewares and electronics – all with affordable rental package options.

Studying abroad in the United States provides an opportunity to not only get a great education, but to also experience different cultures which may not have been possible otherwise. If you’re considering studying abroad, think about your goals and what you would like to experience while in the United States. If you are looking for a smaller university with a large percentage of fellow international students, the University of Tulsa may be a great fit for you!
