From Student Blogger, Nand: Me and my Italian roommate
One of the best decisions I have made in the US, is to share a room with another international student from Italy. His name is Simone Ferrari -- Yes, FERRARI !! His cool last name is one of the things I considered before living with him. We learn about each other’s cultures, share food, make fun of our professors, study, plan our career and make memories together. I give this advice to all the students who ask me about finding housing in the US; please live with a person from another country, you have no idea how much that student has to offer you.
When we say that “America is the land of opportunities”, it’s not fully true. I would rephrase that as “America is the land of opportunities if you keep your eyes open.” For example, the opportunity to learn from a person of different background is easily unseen; if the first thing you do to find accommodation is look for a student from your home country.
