Achieve at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Achieve at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

May 22, 2018

The University Tennessee at Chattanooga, commonly referred to as “Chattanooga,” is a medium-sized, public university located in the growing city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. With a focus on international education, Chattanooga is home to students from more than 45 countries. Learn a little more about the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to see if it’s the right college for you.

Live Like a Local: Located in southeastern Tennessee, Chattanooga is near the mountains and the Tennessee River, which makes it a great campus for students who enjoy spending time outdoors. Near campus are destinations like Ruby Falls, Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground and Rock City, which offer walking trails, waterfalls, caves and beautiful views. The city also offers residents a downtown with walkable shopping and dining, as well as museums and attractions like the Chattanooga Zoo and the Tennessee Aquarium.

A short drive away is the exciting city of Nashville. Students can spend a fun weekend getaway in one of the most popular cities in America, known for its downtown attractions and amazing music scene.

Get Involved: For students looking to get involved on campus outside the classroom, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offers many organizations and clubs where students can pursue their passions. Students can get involved in fine arts, the student newspaper or radio station, student government, professional organizations, service clubs and more than 120 other student-led organizations. The Campus Activities Board puts on fun events for all students to enjoy, including concerts, game nights and tailgates.

Earn Your Degree: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is best known for its nationally ranked business program. Other popular majors include engineering, nursing, English, chemistry and accounting. Chattanooga offers more than 140 undergraduate majors and 50 minors for students to specialize their education. Chattanooga also offers English as a Second Language courses for international students who would like to become more proficient in English.

International students are also encouraged to connect with the Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), which can help them access all the resources they may need while studying in the United States. The ISSS is dedicated to helping international students achieve their academic goals and can connect students with tutors or offer advice on which courses to take, as well as talk through the admissions process, immigration issues and more.

Cheer on the Navy and Gold: Chattanooga supports 13 varsity teams including women’s soccer and basketball and men’s cross country and tennis. The university’s mascot is Scrappy the Mockingbird, and the teams are commonly referred to as the “Mocs.” Cheering on the Mocs is a fun pastime for all Chattanooga students and the university has found athletic successes in their men’s basketball, wrestling and golf programs, as well as women’s softball.

Find Your Place: All Chattanooga students are required to live on-campus for their first year but are free to live off-campus for the remainder of their college career. When searching for a place to live, many students rely on ApartmentSearch.com. This website helps students to search for an apartment based on distance from campus, while also showing the cost of living, local restaurants, the length of your commute and more.

If your apartment is unfurnished, furniture rental is an economical and convenient way to furnish your home. CORT, the leading provider of furniture rental in the U.S., furnishes thousands of student apartments with everything from beds and sofas to housewares and electronics – all with affordable rental package options.

If you’re looking for a university committed to the success of international students with access to both the great outdoors and a lively downtown, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga may be the right university for you. Take a virtual tour of campus and check out the university’s website to get more information on admissions, academics, campus life and what makes Chattanooga an exceptional place to continue your academic studies.

Margaret Schwartz is an experienced international traveler and Director of Marketing at CORT Furniture Rental, where she works directly with students and higher education institutions.
