Welcome to the University of New Orleans

Welcome to the University of New Orleans

Aug 9, 2017

The University of New Orleans was founded in 1956 with the mission to provide an excellent educational experience. Today, the university has more than 8,000 students and 30 bachelor degree programs in areas including the arts, business, music, humanities, and social and natural sciences. Here’s a look into how the University of New Orleans provides its students with all the necessary tools to succeed, both in the classroom and around campus.

International students at University of New Orleans

Campus Life:

There are many opportunities for students to get involved on campus. The University of New Orleans offers more than 50 student organizations, including student government, sports clubs, arts programs and international clubs. With so many organizations on campus, students have the opportunity to learn more about other cultures, master a skill and make new friends. Also, by joining these organizations, students can network with other young professionals preparing for their futures.

A Taste of New Orleans:

The city of New Orleans is known around the world for its food, such as authentic gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish dishes. There are many authentic restaurants surrounding the University of New Orleans campus, giving students the opportunity to get a real taste of the city. On campus, the university’s dining halls provide students with diverse menu options featuring many of these foods on a regular basis, in addition to many international dishes.

The UNO Fitness and Sports Center

Fitness and Health:

As a college student, it’s important to get plenty of exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The University of New Orleans has a fitness and sports center available to students on campus, with 8,082 square meters of space dedicated for recreational activities. The center also has a pool and gymnasium, providing students with a variety of ways to stay fit.

The “Privateers”:

The University of New Orleans has 12 sports teams, known as the New Orleans Privateers. Students can participate in cheering on the Privateers throughout the year, whether it’s soccer, baseball, basketball or another sport. New Orleans has had much success over the years, winning several championships in multiple sports.

Education That is Universal:

Best known for its business administration and engineering programs, the University of New Orleans is renowned for its quality degree programs. It is also home to approximately 800 international students, faculty and staff from about 90 countries around the world. With these numbers, there are many resources on campus available to assist international students during their time in the United States, such as comprehensive advising, programming and support services. The University of New Orleans values all its students, and it’s their goal to ensure their needs are met during their college career.

Moving In:

Undergraduate students enrolled at the University of New Orleans are required to live on campus for as long as space is available. However, if you do move to an off-campus apartment, there are several important considerations to make. ApartmentSearch.com is a great resource for students moving to a new area. The website allows students to search for an apartment based on distance from the campus location, while also showing the cost of living, local restaurants, the length of your commute and more. If your apartment is unfurnished, furniture rental is an economical and convenient way to furnish your home. CORT, the leading provider of furniture rental in the U.S., furnishes thousands of student apartments with everything from beds and sofas to housewares and electronics – all with affordable rental package options.

If you are planning to study abroad in the United States, you will need to take the time to think about your particular needs and interests. If you’d like to learn more about the University of New Orleans, explore their website to see if they are the right fit for your academic interests.

Yu Wu is a native of Nanjing, China, and works with universities and education organizations at CORT Furniture Rental to help international students and scholars settle in faster when studying in the U.S.
