Transitioning To An American Educational System: Experiences of a Student From Jakarta
Jocelyn, a student at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, transferred from Bellevue College with an Associate in Business. His decision to attend Bellevue College was based on positive stories from his father's colleagues and his liking for the campus appearance online.
Coming from Jakarta, Indonesia, where opinions are not often expressed as freely as in America, joining clubs provided Jocelyn with exposure to new perspectives. This was something he would not have experienced elsewhere. Joining clubs and speaking up in class helped him better understand American education culture, which proved helpful when transferring to universities abroad. Additionally, meeting people from around the world enabled him to broaden his view by looking through other people's eyes, which was a new experience for him since cultural differences in Indonesia made it difficult for him to do so before attending college in the US.
Watch the video below and learn more about Jocelyn's experience.
