Studying abroad is an exciting and challenging journey. It’s a way to expand your knowledge in a different country and culture with other students from various walks of life. Choosing your place of study wisely can help secure your future career and deeply enrich your life.

The United States is one of the most sought-after countries to study in because of its global connections and world-class learning environments. If you’ve been planning to jet set and study, why not choose the U.S.?

This article profiles Lewis University in Chicago and provides some excellent reasons to study in the USA. Included are some insights from international student Archie Mari Dela Cruz from the Philippines, a 23-year-old business administration graduate from Lewis.

Inclusive international community

Chicago’s Lewis University is a medium-sized private university with around 7,500 undergraduate and graduate students, approximately 15% of which are international students from all over the world. The high percentage of international students makes Lewis an exciting university for diversity and culture.

According to Archie, “There are numerous international students studying and working in the university. Chicago is also a big international and multicultural community, and plenty of employers are looking to hire international students.”

Top ranking and great scholarships!

Lewis University offers a rare combination of a strong ranking and high scholarships. At Lewis, undergraduate students are eligible for scholarships up to 45 percent of the cost of tuition. This benefit is even more valuable when you know you are getting a quality education. The university is nationally recognized by Princeton Review and Colleges of Distinction.

But in addition to that, Lewis is ranked in the top 10 Illinois colleges by Schools.com and in the top 25 Midwest universities by U.S. News & World Report. Why is ranking important, you may be wondering? Employers in the U.S. want to hire students with a high-quality education. This increases your chances for CPT internships and OPT employment in the United States.

“Lewis University has a department dedicated to international students,” says Archie. “The office is called International Student and Global Scholar Services, and it provides personal, cultural, and academic advice while assisting students with maintaining their student visas so they can have an enriching and successful experience at Lewis University. The office also hosts events that enable students to get involved and be informed on what’s happening on-campus and off-campus.”

Additionally, Lewis has a special Office for Student Engagement and Multicultural Student Enrichment (SEMSE) where students can go if they want to join or start a club on campus. The office also provides support for organizational leadership, recruitment, and retention of members. So if ever you find yourself overwhelmed on which club to join (or how to start one), you can reach out to SEMSE.

At Lewis, you’re not only guided in your education, you’re taken care of as a Lewis graduate with career readiness and training services. Should you feel the need to practice an interview, you may do so with Lewis’ own professionals so you’re more confident during job interviews.

Archie has started a job as a marketing intern at a Chicago company and has benefited from the career services and guidance that Lewis offers its graduates. “Being involved with the student body and university events paved a path for me to build camaraderie with not just my peer students and their parents but also with Lewis staff, faculty members, and alumni members.
