A Short Film by a Los Angeles City College Student

“One Weekend” is an original short film by Oleksii Grytsenko
A lesson in gratitude, immaturity, and the unpredictability of life — Oleksii sets out to highlight issues that are often overlooked.
A ‘Harmless’ Adventure
Drawing inspiration from real-life events, Oleksii’s motive for the movie came from stories of people going missing; being lost without food, water, or clothing. For our main character (played by Yanina Makoviy), what started as a harmless trip had ramifications that would change the rest of her life. And that’s the thing.
As much as we desperately try to steer the course of our lives, one decision can be all it takes to send it spiraling out of control.
No Time for Regret
Oleksii’s film in many ways reflects the rebellious nature that many of us have as college students. As we set out from home, we start to believe that we’re invincible — that there’s nothing that can stop us. The reality is that no matter how much we learn or know, life is unpredictable.
As he aims to find deeper meaning, Oleksii seamlessly weaves in a story between father and daughter and the pitfalls of taking our parents for granted.
No Spoilers!
We don’t want to spoil you on all the twists and turns that Oleksii has in store for you, but we’re certainly looking forward to the ride he’ll take us on as he continues to pursue his dream at Los Angeles City College!
