My Journey at Maryville University: A Tale of Growth and Discovery
Why I Chose Maryville and What I’ve Learned
Hello! My name is Adees Bhatia, and I come from India. I am currently a junior majoring in Business Administration at Maryville University. I chose to pursue my education in the USA because it offers practical learning experiences and a wealth of diverse opportunities, along with the ability to select subjects flexibly.
I was particularly drawn to Maryville University for its small class sizes and the personalized attention from professors. The university also encourages involvement through various organizations, clubs, and intramural sports, which greatly contribute to both personal and professional development. Furthermore, Maryville's commitment to diversity ensures that every student feels valued, heard, and respected, fostering an inclusive community.
A Passion for Cultural Awareness
One of the most enriching classes I've taken outside of my major is Intercultural Studies. This course exposes students to a variety of cultures, promoting global awareness and understanding while enhancing skills in cross-cultural tolerance and communication. It has broadened my perspective and deepened my appreciation for diversity, which I believe is crucial in today’s interconnected world.
Navigating Challenges and Embracing Opportunities
Adapting to a new environment has had its challenges, particularly when it comes to food. As a vegetarian and someone who prioritizes health, I initially struggled to find nutritious options. However, over time, I embarked on a culinary adventure, exploring new dishes and discovering flavors I had never encountered before. This not only helped me maintain a balanced diet but also turned into an exciting journey of culinary exploration.
My favorite spot on campus is Gander, where I often unwind. I aspire to gain job experience in the corporate sector in the U.S., and this summer, I plan to pursue an internship. If it concludes early, I hope to visit my home.
Future Aspirations and Cherished Memories
Maryville University is alive with events, offering a range of educational and social activities, with at least two to three events happening each day. While I haven’t traveled extensively, I’ve enjoyed short trips with friends to Indianapolis and Chicago, and those experiences were truly memorable. I have a passion for travel, with destinations like Norway, London, Switzerland, California, and New York at the top of my list.
One of my favorite memories from my time here was celebrating a friend’s birthday at midnight, creating a special moment we could cherish without the constraints of time. Enriching, diverse, and transformative — my experience has been incredible.
My advice to fellow students is to embrace their true selves while welcoming new experiences. Whether it's joining clubs, stepping out of your comfort zone, trying different foods, or connecting with individuals from various backgrounds, each experience is an opportunity for valuable lessons and personal growth.
Check out Maryville University — it’s the perfect place to pursue your dreams and expand your horizons!
