Most U.S. colleges and universities have their own mandatory courses that make up the core structure of their international business program. Coursework for international business students falls into three areas: quantitative, qualitative, and linguistic. Quantitative classes, which tend to make up the bulk of the coursework, include courses like:

  • Introductory microeconomics
  • Statistics
  • Calculus
  • Foreign market analysis
  • International risk assessment

Qualitative classes include classes like government relations and business communications courses. International business students will likely be required to study a foreign language to cover the linguistic requirements to specialize in a particular part of the world, such as China, central Europe, or Latin America.

Along with these core business classes, you may also be required to complete core art and science subjects or non-international business school classes to meet degree requirements.

Can I Earn a Specialized International Business Degree?

With a broad selection of coursework included in an international business program, you may be able to choose a specialty that may align with your strengths and interests. In addition to your core international business classes, you would have courses focusing on your specialization. There are many types of specializations that you can choose from based on the specialization offerings at the college or university of your choice, which may include:

  • Entrepreneur
  • International Finance
  • International Trade
  • Global Management
  • Marketing and Market Research
  • Sales

What U.S. College or University Should I Attend to Earn My International Business Degree?

With more than 4,700 degree-granting institutions in the United States, there is sure to be at least one perfect for you! Consider choosing a college or university in a location that appeals to you and is the right-sized institution for you and your learning habits. As an international business student, you may want to check whether the program offers study and work abroad opportunities. These opportunities can help you gain greater cultural awareness, expand your network, and get the most out of your international business degree.

If you’re interested in an international business program that ensures the highest standard of excellence, make sure to look for accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. A program with AACSB accreditation follows a rigorous curriculum taught by highly qualified faculty and undergoes continuous assessment and improvement.
