Yusun Lee didn’t choose to study abroad on a whim. A born artist from South Korea, she had a clear vision for her future: to be recognized not just for what she could do, but for who she was as a creator. Lee longed to be seen—and she knew she had to leave home to make that happen.

“I constantly got C’s in Korea because I used bold lines. I was told to ‘use soft lines to get an A,’” Lee recalls. “But I didn’t want to change my style just to fit a standard.”

Determined to forge a new path, she set her sights on the U.S.—specifically California State University, Long Beach (CSULB)—to pursue her dream of becoming a visual designer. But first, she needed a strong foundation.
