What is your level of education and field of study?

I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Why did you decide to study in the USA?

My decision to study in the United States is based on the quality of education offered in this country and the opportunity to immerse myself in an environment where English is the primary language.

Why did you choose your university/college?

I chose the University of Tennessee as my academic destination for several reasons that fit my academic goals and personal achievement. The most important among these factors is the university’s distinguished reputation for academic excellence, particularly in English as a Second Language.

Moreover, the vibrant and inclusive campus community at the University of Tennessee, characterized by its rich diversity, attracted me. I am convinced that immersing myself in such an intellectually stimulating environment will not only foster my academic growth but also foster a broader global perspective and deepen my cultural awareness.

Have you taken any classes outside your major that you’ve enjoyed?

I have been reinforcing my knowledge in cybersecurity and everything about smart devices. Before I came to the USA I worked in a government institute in the Dominican Republic as an IT facilitator and I was also a cell phone repair technician.

What were some struggles you faced and how did you handle it?

I encountered several difficulties during this time, such as being separated from my family, especially my son, and the daily challenges of trying to improve our lives for a better future. Facing the unknown and leaving my comfort zone were also major challenges. However, I confronted these obstacles with resilience, and discipline. I made sure to maintain open communication with my family, knowing that even though they weren’t physically with me, they were always in my thoughts, and my efforts made them proud.

What is your favorite place on campus?

The sports complex because I can play soccer with other people, and there is also a gym where I can workout.

What do you want to do after graduation?

I’ll try to start a master’s in cybersecurity

What are some of your summer plans?

Go to visit beautiful places that Tennessee has, such as Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg, and the Fall Creek Falls State Park

Does your university/college organize any fun events you’ve attended or are looking forward to?

Of course they organize fun activities to meet new people from other countries and learn something new about other cultures.

Have you traveled around the U.S.?

Not yet, but I will soon.

What were some of your favorite places, or where would you like to go?

I would like to go to the Grand Canyon, Yankee Stadium, and Times Square.

What is one of your favorite memories from your time as a student?

I have never imagined meeting people from so many different countries, meeting amazing people that made the days away from my family easier.

Describe your experience in three words.

Discipline, Love, and Growth.

What would you tell students who are considering studying in the USA?

Growth always depends on you, and surrounding yourself with an environment that can provide you with the knowledge necessary is always essential. Expanding your thoughts with points of view from different aspects makes decision-making more fruitful!
