Interested in an Aviation Career? Check Out Lewis University!

Interested in an Aviation Career? Check Out Lewis University!

September 9th, 2021

The Boeing Company’s latest job projections show that within the next 20 years the world will need 800,000 new aviation pilots and 750,000 new maintenance technicians. Aviation education is what Lewis University was founded on in 1932, and now the university offers over 100 different bachelor, master, and Ph.D degree programs. Students who graduate from one of the six aviation programs at Lewis University are joining one of the world’s fastest growing employment fields.

Recent graduates from Lewis University have experienced this trend. For the past 5 years, more than 90 percent of our students receive job offers after completing their degree. Being located in Chicago is also a great opportunity for students interested in aviation. Chicago is home to United Airlines, Boeing Corp., and the second busiest airport in the world. With over 100 active employment partnerships, and our own private airport right on campus, Lewis University provides students with a total immersion into the aviation industry.

Lewis University is nationally recognized for excellence in education and is ranked within the top 25 universities in the Midwest. Additionally, the university was recently awarded the Loening Trophy as the “outstanding all around collegiate aviation program” in the United States. As a national leader in aviation education, our students are well known and highly regarded in the industry. This gives them strong professional networks and a competitive advantage when searching for the first job.

The Aviation Department offers 6 different programs of study:

  • Aerospace Technology
  • Pilot Training
  • Aviation Administration
  • Aviation Maintenance Management
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems
  • Supply Chain Management

One of the most popular choices among international students is the Aerospace Technology program. Students learn how to design, build, inspect and repair aircraft, using highly advanced equipment. As the aviation industry continues to advance from companies like Space X and Blue Origin, a new kind of technician is required to maintain modern aircraft.

The business side of the aviation industry is also seeing tremendous job growth. This is why our degree in Aviation Administration is highly in demand. Students master the technical knowledge and specialized expertise required in the aviation industry. They gain the skills necessary to effectively manage people, projects, and ideas with practical coursework in aviation business and aviation management. This education prepares our students to become leaders in aviation companies around the world.

Take a virtual tour of campus or the aviation center. For students who are interested in studying at Lewis University, they should begin the international student application. The university has start dates in January and August each year and offers competitive scholarships of around 40 percent.
