The holidays are here again, which means the end of the semester is in sight. Unfortunately, you still have to get through a pivotal stretch of final papers, projects and exams before enjoying a much-earned winter break. If you’re hitting the dreaded end-of-semester slump with so much on your plate, consider some of the tips below to help you get through the home stretch.  

Build a Schedule 

As things begin to wind down with classes, you might find yourself trying to juggle more deadlines than you’re used to. Set up a schedule to help you get prepared for those last few weeks of classes. Take the time to cross reference your syllabi and plot down every deadline and test left on your calendar. Some professors are better about communicating important dates than others, so having things down on a schedule will help you ensure that nothing falls by the wayside.

Plan Ahead 

Once you have your schedule ready, get to work in advance of all your exams and deadlines. Don’t fall into the trap of waiting to the last minute to write papers or begin studying. At the end of the year, you have a greater risk of running up to deadlines for multiple papers, projects or exams in the same week. Or the same day! Set aside some time to get work done and begin studying before exams. Give yourself at least a few days buffer, so you can put your best foot forward and also allow for some time to reach out to your professors with any questions.  

Find an Outlet

It can be stressful facing year-end assignments on a condensed schedule. It’s important to put in the work to end the semester on a successful note but be sure to give yourself time to take a breather. Take a break from studying and go on a nice walk around campus. Plan a trip to the movies with friends on the weekend to get your mind off of your coursework. Make sure to keep eating healthy! By taking advantage of some downtime and treating yourself right, you’ll be able to come back to your studies feeling refreshed.  

Learn your Lesson

Unless you’re a senior that’s graduating this December, there’s a chance to take what you’ve learned from the semester and pay it forward to next. For instance, did you find that your study space was adequate during the stressful final exam period? Keep in mind that not everyone has the same work style. Some students need to be at a desk with all their materials, while others prefer to recline on a chair or sofa. You might consider changing the furniture arrangement to ensure you’re set up for success next year.  

At the end of the day, slumps are normal. Keeping these practical tips in mind will help you plan and remain on track for all your end-of-semester assignments. Be sure to stay organized and give yourself a break every now and then to help you finish the semester strong!
