May 26, 2025

Why did you decide to study in the USA?

I wanted to study in the USA because the USA has excellent academic programs, good support facilities, and cultural diversity.

Why did you choose the University of New Orleans’ Intensive English Language Program?

The University of New Orleans is known as a famous university in New Orleans, Louisiana. IELP is an excellent English program here. New Orleans has the same weather as Vietnam and it also has a vast Vietnamese community.

What do you like best?

I enjoy studying English with native speakers and making new friends from all over the world.

What do you miss most?

I miss my family, people, and also the food in Vietnam.

How has this program helped you to handle future study at a U.S. university?

I have been studying here for five months. My English has improved quickly. This program has helped me know the basics in order to get ready for the university.

What was your biggest surprise?

Life in U.S. is different than Vietnam and the education is also. I spent a long time adapting to the new environment.

... your biggest disappointment?

I don’t have any disappointments!

How have you handled:

... language differences?

I have talked with native speakers frequently. Americans are very nice and they are willing to help you correct your mistakes.

... finances?

I studied hard to get good grades so that IELP will reduce the tuition fee by a student discount. I also applied for a student worker position on campus.

... adjusting to a different educational system?

I have asked teachers and other students who have experience studying in the U.S. about the educational system.

What are your activities?

IELP has given a lot of opportunities for new students to adapt to their new environment and know more about New Orleans through activities such as French Quarter trip, Culture hour, and field trips.

How easy or difficult was making friends?

It’s easy to make friends in the U.S. Everybody in the USA is very friendly and enthusiastic.

How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?

My career goal is finishing my bachelor degree. The U.S. education satisfies my personal goals and the needs of my country.

What is your advice to other students who are considering a U.S. education?

My advice is to chase your dream and never give up.
