Luis Blanco from Spain: A Ninth-Grade Student Who Attended the iD Tech Summer Camp at MIT near Boston

Why did you choose an iD Tech Summer Camp?

With the program being at MIT I was attracted to it immediately. The program provided me with a variety of tools such as sensors, wires, boards ... And an online program to learn new programming skills. The food there was also delicious.

What did you like best?

The Freedom of Constructing Anything course.

What did you miss most?

Nothing practically, everything was very nice there.

What was your biggest surprise?

Again, not that much of a surprise as I come from an international school, but I have noticed that mathematics is divided into Algebra, Geometry... Whilst in Europe everything is in a pack.

What are your activities?

We went to the Boston Museum and to see monuments.

How easy or difficult was making friends?

It was very easy.

How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?

In the future, I plan to study robotics, and I think that Spain really needs to invest in the robotics departments. I think in the future I might be able to contribute to that. And, I would also love to study in a university in the U.S. such as MIT or Carnegie Mellon.

What is your advice to other students who are considering a U.S. education?

I would advise them to not be afraid to ask if in doubt and to be constantly trying new experiences.
