Interview:

Eneritz Ares is from Spain and is studying English at the English Language Institute at the University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California.

Why did you decide to study in the USA?

The USA has always interested me and especially California. Moreover, my uncles live there and this was a really good excuse to go to study.

Why did you choose the English Language Institute at the University of California, San Diego?

My uncle studied at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), so this helped me to decide in which university study.

What do you like best?

I like the fact that you can meet a lot of people from different countries. Also, I like the good relationship with the teachers.

What do you miss most?

The lifestyle of my country.

How has this program helped you to handle future study at a U.S. university?<

I have been studying here for about four months, exactly from August to December. I think I have improved my English, especially in conversation.

What was your biggest surprise?

The biggest surprise was the people, how polite and good behaved they are.

... your biggest disappointment?

I didn’t find anything that disappointed me.

How have you handled:

... language differences?

I didn’t have many difficulties, because I have already known something about the language.

... finances?<

Spending the least I can.

... adjusting to a different educational system?

Perfectly, I didn`t have any difficulty.

How easy or difficult was making friends?

From my experience, it was easy because in the program I was in it was easy to communicate.

How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?

In my country, languages are very important, especially English. So, my goal is to have good knowledge of English.

What is your advice to other students who are considering a U.S. education?

They should go abroad to study English, and even better, go to California. The weather is the best!
