Yash Rajani from India: Studies for an MBA at Sam Houston State University, Texas

Interview:

Why did you decide to study in the USA?

I wanted to study in the USA as I wanted to expand my dad’s business and see global potential. The education here helped me understand the business processes, methods and environment.

Why did you choose SHSU?

I chose SHSU as two of my elder sisters and a few of my cousins have studied here. The MBA program is AACSB accredited and spoken highly about by my counsellors and siblings.

What do you like the best about SHSU?

I love that SHSU faculty in the business school are so approachable and helpful. They are ready to work with you and help you gain the knowledge that the course tries to impart. I love the effort made by all the student organizations around campus to promote awareness and organize events for all of us.

What do you miss a lot?

Being a vegetarian, I miss the Indian food the most.

What was your biggest surprise?

People are so friendly here that I have never had a problem asking help for all kinds of things.

How have you adjusted to a different educational system?

I adjusted by using all the resources the campus has to offer. The academic success center and reading center helped me a lot. They educated me and helped by formatting my work. The tutors are available at our disposal and the faculty were really welcoming to help after class hours.

What are your activities?

I take part in various organizations and try making a better experience for students here at SHSU. I work with the international students as I want to help them get settled and network with students on campus. I also use the various recreation and sporting facilities to pass my time.

How easy or difficult was making friends?

It is easy to make friends if you just try and talk to people. It is important not to segregate people according to their race or color. There are so many students at SHSU and I am sure we can find a lot of friends here

What is your advice to other students who are considering a U.S. education?

I feel studying in the USA is a real opportunity for people. This country provides excellent practical education and exposure. The global trade presence that the USA has is remarkable. Every country wants to do business here so learning from their experiences and knowledge is an asset to anyone.
