Pirakorn Iamcharernying from Thailand. Pirakorn is a graduate student in Computer Science with Entrepreneurship at University of San Francisco.
Why did you decide to study in the USA?
I have planned to study graduate degree in USA when I studied in high school. I believed I can get both life and study experience. Also, Thailand’s business will grow in global business in the future, so it is good chance to study English, and Technology skill here.
How did you choose your intensive English program? Please mention such factors as location, reputation, special programs offered. What attracted you to your particular school? Why is it a special place?
After I was accepted to study graduate degree in Computer Science with Entrepreneurship in University of San Francisco, IEP program is a best choice to prepare my English. I can learn English, American’s culture, and University’s process in this English Program.
What do you like best about studying here?
I like many things in the course. However, I like teaching method in the best. Instructors taught me deep knowledge, and strictly test. I get much knowledge here.
What do you miss most about home?
I miss my family, and Thai friends.
How long have you been studying here? How has your English improved? How has this program helped you to handle future study at a U.S. university?
I studied this program for 3 months. My English has improved a lot. This program made me improve writing, listening, and speaking skill that can help me to study in my major in U.S. University.
What was your biggest surprise about U.S. life and education?

Nothing.
How have you handled:
... language differences?
In my opinion, I don’t need to handle much about language difference, because friends and instructors tried to understand me when I want to communicate with them. They are friendly and kindness.
finances?
The living cost in San Francisco is quite expensive, but instructors and administrative coordinator help me to give the imformation how to save living cost.
adjusting to a different educational system?
It is very different education system from Thailand. I have to communicate with instructors in class. I have to ask questions if I don’t understand.
What are your activities (clubs, sports, student associations, travel, homestay programs, special activities or trips sponsored by your Intensive English Program)?
I did many activities in this course. I played basketball with my classmate. This course also has a trip to go places such as chocolate factory, San Francisco zoo, Baseball stadium (AT&T Park). I also had Bar-B-Q with classmates and instructors. They were good memorized.
How easy or difficult is making friends in the USA?
It’s very easy to make friends in the USA. You just say “hi”, and you can get new friends here.
What are your career goals? How is your U.S. education relevant to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?
I want to improve my programming skill (Software development skill). I also want to improve my English skill. I have goal to get my new business in global.
What is your advice to other students from your country who are considering studying English in the USA?
If you want to improve your English skill, it is better that you study English in the USA because you have to use English every day. You also get life experience here.
