The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is one of the top-ranked universities in the world. The Intensive English Institute Program

The University's Intensive English Institute (IEI), established in 1967, has helped thousands of students improve their English language abilities. The goal of the IEI is to assist students in developing their English language proficiency as much as possible so that they can enroll in US degree programs or improve their professional careers.

The IEI offers courses for students from beginning to advanced proficiency in English, at five different levels. Each student receives 20 hours per week of in-class instruction. Classes are offered in two 15-week sessions, the fall semester (August - December) and the spring semester (January - May). The IEI also offers an 8-week summer session from mid-June to mid-August. Students at all levels have both required and elective classes including courses such as the following:

Academic listening and speaking/reading and writing
Listening and communication strategies/everyday reading and writing
Film and fiction
Business communication
Current events
Grammar
Conversation skills
Pronunciation
TOEFL strategies

IEI Student Life

Life as an IEI student is more than just going to class everyday. Special IEI activities, such as trips and social events, provide exciting opportunities to have fun, explore American culture and use English in a natural setting. IEI students also have access to a wide variety of campus and community activities, events and facilities. IEI students also enjoy:
