Study abroad is an enriching, life-changing experience. There is no substitute for the experience of living in another country, and learning first-hand how other people live, think, work and play. It opens you to a world of new experiences. If studying abroad is your goal, Portland Community College may be the right choice for you.

Portland Community College (PCC) is located in Portland, Oregon, USA, and is the largest institution of higher education in Oregon. The college enrolls more than 98,000 students annually, including students from 50 different countries. PCC has three comprehensive campuses offering an extensive variety of academic programs, including one year specialized certificates, two-year professional and technical degrees, and professional /technical career training opportunities.

PCC has helped international students achieve their educational goals for over 20 years. There are many choices: improve your language skills by participating in our Intensive English Program (no TOEFL required; Placement Test required), take art classes during a summer break, or pursue courses in over 100 areas of study including computer science, engineering and business administration. Our international education staff can also help you plan courses that will transfer to a four-year university to complete a degree program.

International students choose PCC because of the quality of academic programs, the affordability (approximately half the cost of international student tuition at a state university), the small class sizes, and friendly instructors and staff. The international education staff can also assist you with academic advising, finding a host-family, and orientation to the college & community life in Portland.

Employers look favorably at students who have studied abroad. They perceive students as having developed skills including improved English language skills, cross-cultural communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to new circumstances. International students may complement their academic studies with a short-term job opportunity, too. Students may apply for a special work authorization (through the DHS) upon completion of most academic programs. PCC International students have worked at organizations such as Intel, Nike, National Park Service, Adidas, Freightliner, and area businesses (PCC can assist students with necessary paperwork).

Designated as the "Best Big City" by Money Magazine, Portland is an ideal study abroad destination located in the heart of the United States' Pacific Northwest. Portland's big city excitement, friendly people, and no sales tax make the "City of Roses" a favorite west-coast destination.
