Former Students Say...

Read the comments of some former students:

I have learned many new words, grammar and American expressions in a short time. This has been an excellent Intensive English Language course for me. I was studying English in an expensive, well-known university before this but this course is better.
    - Carlos Mafla (Colombia)

I could enter the college I really wanted to go to because of this school. There are very good programs at OSULA. When you want to go to college, go to OSULA.
    - Masako Tokunaga (Japan)

It was an important experience for me, not only to learn English but to learn to live with people from other cultures, sharing the same space, sharing the same problem of being away from home. The teachers made me feel comfortable because they understood our situation.
    - Angeles Faucon (Spain)

I studied in other schools but none of them were as good as OSULA. This school has the best teachers. Now I can not only communicate but understand people here.
    - Richard Bruce (Brazil)

Course

Intensive English Program

This course is designed for students who want to gain fluency in English communication. Many students plan to attend another course after completing their English program: community college, university, technical studies or graduate school. Other students take the course during a vacation period before returning to their home country. All international students are welcome. A student visa is required.

Upon arrival, new students take a placement test to determine their starting skill in English. Based on this result, they will join a class at the appropriate stage of learning in our six-level system. Students may stay at OSULA until they have reached their learning goal or until they complete Level 6 and graduate.

Classes meet from 9:00-3:00 daily Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour break for lunch. This is a total of 25 hours per week of contact with a native-speaker teacher. Classes are small so students have ample opportunities to use English throughout each day.

Activities

Each month, English program staff and students go on a group outing to a cultural destination. Past destinations have included art museums, gardens, parks, historical homes, ecology lectures, colleges and universities, sporting events and other Los Angeles attractions.

English program students also attend a free social luncheon once a month at OSULA together with teachers and staff. Milestones are recognized and performances by students and staff range from speeches to music and dance recitals.

Dormitory

OSULA's two story, on-campus dormitory offers private rooms with semi-private shower and toilet. Rooms have individual climate controls and a garden view. Coin laundry on each floor.

Meals

OSULA students prepare their meals in the international kitchen located in the dormitory. Refrigerator, microwave, oven, stove and shelf space are provided free of charge. Two supermarkets are located a block away.

Neighborhood

OSULA is located among private homes in an upscale neighborhood. The area is safe and students may enjoy taking walks and meeting Americans for conversation. Nearby restaurants, coffee shops, banks and shopping make it a convenient "home away from home" where everything is close by. For entertainment, Universal Studios Hollywood is 10 minutes by Rapid Bus, downtown Los Angeles is 20 minutes by freeway and the beaches are 35 minutes by car.
