Academic Excellence

At this campus, 1,706 freshmen, of a total 11,232 students, thrive in a safe and supportive environment where collaborative research opportunities enhance learning alongside extracurricular and NCAA Division I athletic programs that enrich student life. Tech's campus brings together students from every state in the nation and from 62 other countries.

Thriving Campus Community

The pedestrian-friendly campus revolves around the oak-shaded Quad and its gracious gardens, beckoning benches and splashing Lady of the Mist fountain. Other campus highlights include a brick walkway that bears the names of all 72,000 Tech grads, the newly rebuilt Hale Hall (where admissions and architecture are housed), the 16-story Wyly Tower of Learning, the cutting-edge Institute for Micromanufacturing, and the imposing, round Thomas Assembly Center.

The 255-acre campus is also home to Tolliver Hall's state-of-the-art cyber cafe for students; an Olympic-size, T-shaped swimming pool; and the Lambright Sports Center, which houses basketball and racquetball courts, sauna facilities, weight rooms and an indoor track. There is also a nine-hole golf course.

In addition to 10 residence halls, including one for honors students, and a new on-campus apartment-style community, campus life is fueled by excellent academic programs, 160 student organizations, and 17 varsity sports. (Students are admitted free of charge to all Tech sporting events.)

Services for International Students

Louisiana Tech provides orientation, immigration advising, community relations, personal advising and social/cultural programming. Thursday coffee hour is organized with international and American friends. An annual scholarship dinner is held to raise money for international students' scholarships.

The International Student Association sponsors various social and educational programming throughout the year, including a dessert social, where desserts from around the globe are shared with the Tech community.

Admission

International applicants must have a minimum 2.5 high school GPA and an official TOEFL score (more than 525 on PBT or 195 on CBT or ESL Level 12). Tech must receive the TOEFL score within two years of the test date. ELS classes are available through the ELS Language Center located on campus. Go to http://www.els.edu/ruston for information. An ACT or SAT-1 score is highly recommended.

The Greater Community: Ruston, Louisiana

Louisiana Tech makes its home in the north-central Louisiana town of Ruston, which is at the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 167. Students can enjoy local eateries, stores and activities or they can take a drive (250 miles west to Dallas, Texas; 70 miles west to Shreveport; and 26 miles east to Monroe) for a wider range of dining, shopping and entertainment experiences. Ruston, a friendly Southern town of 23,000 and site of the annual Peach Festival, is close-knit with its university neighbor. Tech students are active in cooperative projects with Ruston businesses and civic organizations.
