Founded in 1914, Johnson & Wales University is a private, career-oriented institution offering programs that are geared to the success of our students. Students represent all 50 states and 84 countries. The academic focus of the University is on Bachelor degree programs in Business, Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Travel Tourism, and Technology, with M.B.A. programs in Global Business and Hospitality Administration. M.B.A concentrations include International Trade, Organizational Leadership, Financial Management, Marketing, and Accounting.

At Johnson & Wales, we are redefining education. Our upside-down curriculum lets you begin study where other colleges end: with classes in your major in your first year, and on-the-job experience in your second year. You'll have the chance to work in your area of interest, test the field, and gain valuable experience right from the time you begin, finishing with courses for professional polish and enrichment. More than 59 choices of majors are offered.

Our academic calendar year is a three-term system with enrollments in September, November, and March, rather than the traditional two semesters. That lets you carry fewer courses per term and still complete your education in four years, or carry more and earn your degree sooner, saving time and money.

English Language Institute

Johnson & Wales University's English Language Institute provides year-round instruction in English language proficiency. Our ESL program allows you to focus on the areas where you need the most improvement while also allowing you to take regular classes in a degree program.

Campus Life

Johnson & Wales' first campus in Rhode Island consists of two major campuses: the Weybosset Hill Campus, located in and around downtown Providence, is home to students in the College of Business,The Hospitality College, and the School of Technology; the Harborside Park Campus is for students in the College of Culinary Arts and Graduate School. Residential facilities are located throughout the city. The University provides free shuttle-bus service between the various campuses and residence halls.

Beyond books and studies, there's a world outside the classroom. Our multimillion-dollar recreation and athletic center houses a student center, a recreation room, 3 basketball courts, locker rooms, an aerobics studio, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a game arcade, and a convenience store. Thousands of students come to Johnson & Wales every year not just for what it is, but where it is, and what it has to offer. Clubs, sports, entertainment, the hottest happenings--it's all here. Providence is located one hour from Boston and about three hours from New York City.

Other Johnson & Wales University campuses are in North Miami, Florida. Minutes from the sunny beaches and vibrant night life, this is one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Our campus in Denver, Colorado is in one of America's fastest growing cities, located at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Year-round outdoor activities like skiing and hiking make this an attractive place to study.

A new campus opened in Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2004. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the southeast USA. Mild year-round climate, outdoor leisure activity, and southern charm attract tourists and an international population.

For International Students

From the time you arrive, the Johnson & Wales University staff at our International Center is ready to welcome you. International students are greeted at the airport, train, or bus station and brought to our university-owned hotel where you'll stay before moving into more permanent housing. You may choose to live on or off campus. Many international students prefer to live off-campus. The International Center and our Housing Coordinator will help you find an apartment, a roommate, sign a lease, buy furniture and assist you in every way possible to make your adjustment comfortable in your new home.

Johnson & Wales' International Center houses International and Graduate Admissions, and International Student Services. The Center helps students year-round with issues ranging from admission to graduation. It sponsors orientation for new students to introduce them to J&W and life in the United States. At orientation, new students meet international University staff, plus other Johnson & Wales students. In addition, the International Student Advisor counsels students on immigration and employment issues, and conducts tax seminars and cultural adjustment workshops.
