Boise State University's campus lies along the banks of the beautiful Boise River. To apply to Boise State University, applicants must provide the following materials. The deadline for materials to be received for fall semester is June 1 and for spring semester is October 15.
  1. completed International Student undergraduate or graduate application
  2. financial statement for international students
  3. statement of financial support
  4. certified copies of official records of each secondary or middle school, college or university, and/or professional and technical school attended.
  5. official TOEFL scores. Undergraduate admission requires a score of 500 (paper-based test) or 173 (computer-based test) or 61 (iBT), or an IELTS score of 5; graduate admission requires a score of 550(PBT) or 213(CBT) or 80 (iBT), or an IELTS score of 6. Note that some graduate programs have additional application requirements (for example, GMAT scores, higher TOEFL/IELTS scores, letters of recommendation, etc.)
  6. application fee of $30 for undergraduates, $55 for graduates

Conditional Admission: Boise State University requires a TOEFL score of 500(PBT) / 173(CBT) / 46(iBT) for undergraduate admission. Students who have been enrolled for at least one eight-week session in Boise State's Intensive English Program, and have a TOEFL score above 450(PBT) / 133(CBT), may qualify for conditional admission. In this case, based on recommendation by the IEP staff, students may enroll in up to 7 credit hours of courses while continuing to study part-time in the IEP.

Intensive English Program (IEP)

Boise State University offers an Intensive English Program. The program is offered in two eight-week sessions during each spring and fall term, and two four-week sessions during summer. Students are placed in courses at their proficiency level, where they learn in a safe and confidence-building environment. Classes are adjusted each session according to student needs and interests, and emphasize student participation and interaction. IEP features include:
  • Small class size (15 or fewer students)
  • Professionally trained instructors with experience living and teaching abroad
  • 20-23 class hours each week, focusing on academic reading, writing, speaking & listening skills
  • Practical language use skills in an American cultural context
  • Study strategies for academic success
  • TOEFL preparation, using both text-based and software materials
  • Computer and internet facilities specifically for IEP students
  • Culturally oriented field trips throughout the community, state and region
  • Opportunities for additional conversation partnerships and social activities
  • Advising, counseling and other student support services
  • Access to on-campus housing and on-campus student employment (subject to F-1 visa regulations)
  • Access to all Boise State University research and recreational facilities
